Your windows allow natural light into your home and, when the weather’s nice, let fresh air circulate indoors. But just like with any other feature in your home, there will come a day when you should start considering replacing your old windows with new ones.

Here are a few signs it’s time to get rid of your home’s old windows and replace them with new ones:
- Drafts and temperature inconsistencies—If you feel drafts around your windows or notice temperature fluctuations in your home, this can indicate poor insulation or seals. Old, inefficient windows can let air in or out, making it harder to maintain a comfortable temperature.
- Condensation or fogging between panes—When condensation builds up between the panes of your windows, it means the seal has failed. This results in moisture getting trapped between the glass, which can be difficult or impossible to remove, and it usually leads to reduced visibility and energy efficiency.
- Increased energy bills—If you notice a significant rise in your heating and cooling costs, it could be because your windows are no longer energy efficient. Older windows may have gaps, cracks, or thin glass that lets heat escape in the winter and enter in the summer.
- Excessive noise from outside—If you hear a lot of outdoor noise even when your windows are closed, this could mean your current windows aren’t providing good sound insulation. Newer, high-quality windows can help reduce noise from traffic, neighbors, and other sources.
